Muka Workshop - Muka is the Maori word for flax fibre. In this workshop you will pick and process your own flax leaf using traditional tools and make a length of muka to keep.
Raranga Workshop 1 - Raranga is the Maori word for plaiting. You will Pick and process your own flax leaf using traditional tools and choose to make either a “rourou” – a flax bowl (also known as a “kono”) or a “tipare”- a headband.
Raranga Workshop 2 - For the more adventurous weaver. Using traditional Maori tools and methods, make your own backpack, or large kete.
Hoanga Workshop - Hoanga is the Maori word for sandstone. Using hoanga each student will make their own paua shell pendant, using local resources. Use a tuwiri, or spinning drill to make holes in your pendant.
Kokowai Workshop - Kokowai is the Maori word for paint made from earth that is high in iron oxide. In this workshop, you will learn to identify the resource, and use traditional Maori tools and methods to process and bake the raw earth in an open fire.
